After a long break and a very quiet summer in terms of runners the hitherto rusty pendulum that resuscitates the National Hunt season is steadily cranking into regular action. We have had the odd bit of action over the summer and were very pleased to see IVEBEENTHINKING win at Uttoxeter after her very long absence. This mercurial mare did not seem that keen to even jump off but warmed to the task to win handsomely under stable conditional Ben Poste. However, she came back rather jaded (thankfully her legs felt fine) after running on the better ground so we gave her the time she needed. Most importantly, her very patient owner/breeder Val Norbury was in attendance to toast her victory.

That was about as committed to summer jumping we got at Dason Court bar a near-miss with the now sadly injured Multiview. It is all systems go towards the winter season. Riding out the very fresh horses has not been for the faint hearted but our great team have managed well. We have plenty of youngsters that did not run last year to look forward to and the return of the more established inmates. I thought the horses did particularly well over the summer and most of ours were out early enough to take advantage of the spring grass. At this moment in time dreams abound and anticipation is palpable. Early work and schooling on the all weather has started so fingers crossed this season we see more of the numeral '1' and slightly less of the numeral '2' although everyone kept resonating that there are worse positions to be in. . . perhaps.
