As Christmas and New Year draw ever closer we are delighted with how the horses are performing. There are still far too many placings than winners but one can't be ungrateful. Arden Denis was very impressive at Uttoxeter last week. Sadly the handicapper also thought so and duly hiked him up 17lbs. It could be that he runs under a penalty on Fridaybefore his new mark kicks in as he has returned a very fresh horse. We have always thought that he would prefer better ground (like many by his sire Generous) but he handled the softer ground very well. We were all so delighted for his very enthusiastic team of owners as they have been patient. They also have a promising bumper horse by Midnight Legend called Mr Ooosh so exciting times hopefully lie ahead.
We were also delighted with how Last Echo handled the very tacky ground at Fontwell. It hasn't been long since we bought her so she has come a long way in a short space of time and should improve a fair amount for the experience. The weekend saw a great round of jumping by Midnight Belle at a very windy Carlisle. She is so tough and really attacks her fences and probably the opposition too if she could. Lewis also performed well and pleased us with how he jumped. He was too keen early on so didn't quite get home over a trip that is actually a bare minimum for him. He will be a cracking 3 mile chaser one day. The last word must go to Trojan Sun who bizarrely managed to replicate his fall at Southwell a year on and in identical fashion. Thankfully both he and Jerry McGrath came away unscathed but the first fence in a 2m4f Chase at Southwell wouldn't be high on his Christmas list.
