Dreams abound and a feisty Fox

November 18, 2014

Last week was a busy one for Dason Court and thank fully it also saw some success. The patience of The Wally's Dream syndicate was rewarded with a winner at Huntingdon when Alberto's Dream powered home. For a syndicate that includes his breeder; some that know a little about horses and some who know nothing, it has been a test of faith as he is a weak horse who has taken time. Thankfully all my 'chat' has been franked by a win which will hopefully be the beginning of many. Our amateur-James Nixon- was also rather emotional as he has always insisted that 'Albie' would come good. This horse is a chaser and should hopefully improve further as he matures into his big frame.

It was a case of history repeating itself when Theatrebar - another homebred - came agonizingly close to making a successful chasing debut. His jumping was simply out of this world. He has been a horse that we have been excited about as a chaser since he first arrived and he did not disappoint. We congratulated winning trainer Alan King who said of his horse Ned Stark that 'he is big; rangy; exciting and has a longer neck than yours!'. What was lovely was that we were all invited to the sponsors box to enjoy the rest of the day. It was Tom Jones' memorial race where I commented that Tingle Creek hadn't quite been reborn but nearly . . .

Wednesday saw a correct decision vindicated as Foxcub could have run at Huntingdon and attempt to take on Volnay De Thaix who won pulling the proverbial cart. While not so impressive, it was hard not to be impressed with the way Foxcub won. The ground changed to soft just before his race and I thought he would struggle on it but what do I know. We were all delighted for the big - celebrating owners Celia and Michael Baker but also the horse as he had a rough time of it last season after his heavy fall at Wincanton. He is immensely tough as he has come home ready for more. He will have a bit of time now before his next assignment. Incidentally, this 'raging bull' needs no encouragement from any matador for a fight. In fact he seems to have a penchant for his trainer's arm. My flesh and his teeth have a real love affair; bringing a unnervingly literal meaning to giving one's right arm for glory.
