Lanzarote Hurdle

January 22, 2014

After a break the equine in mates at Dason Court are slowly moving back into action. The results have largely been pleasing. I was delighted with Foxcub’s run in the Lanzarote Hurdle on unsuitably testing ground. He really showed that he has gained in confidence after his Wincanton fall as although he was triumphant at Leicester he was still quite careful in the jumping department. He will be a better horse next year but it may be that he heads to the Cheltenham Festival and better ground (he says trying to predict the weather). Midnight Belle performed with real credit at Ludlow. Although I do not think it would have made a difference to the final result, I do think that she is more effective at 2m5f. It going to sound like the proverbial long playing record but she is also an exciting horse for next year over fences.

Midnight Request acquitted himself really well at Leicester yesterday and I think he may have run into a rather well handicapped horse in the John Flint-trained Kayf Moss.  His owner/breeder’s Edward and Janet Donohue have been so patient and his performance will have given them plenty of hope for the future – oddly enough he is another horse that I am excited about for next season. The development he has made over the last year has been remarkable as he was hardly trainable last season. Midnight Belle is living evidence that Midnight Legend’s can take time and essentially show improvement with age.  There is plenty to look forward to with the future in mind. Talking of future, there is nothing better than to see a filly foal by Frankel making the front page of The Times – Frankel is an equine ambassador for our sport if ever there was one.
