About Tom

Now, over ten years since he took out his training licence, Tom's commitment to his vocation remains undimmed.

Both he and his wife, Elsa, devote themselves to the well being and development of the horses in their care. Racing has been central to both their lives since they were very young and running their own yard is a natural choice, now with the added dimension of being  a growing family with two young children.

Tom started out riding with the Golden Valley Pony Club and fell in love with the sport when given the chance to ride out at Venetia Williams's stable nearby.  From there, via a stint with Michael and Peter Scudamore, he went to James Fanshawe at Newmarket where he spent three years.  Then, at the age of just 21, he became Assistant Trainer to Nicky Henderson at Seven Barrows for five years from 2006.

In 2011 he set up on his own at the family farm near Ross-on-Wye.  Visitors to the yard quickly understand that the horses here are very much treated as individuals and winners at any level are seen as a real achievement for all concerned - owners, Tom and his staff alike.  Tom takes a truly patient attitude to training and firmly believes that horses should be allowed to progress naturally and safely in order to fulfil their potential.  Their welfare is paramount.

Tom also takes a keen interest in breeding and is a member of  the National Hunt Committee of the Thoroughbred Breeders' Association.
